Be alert!

• Watch where you are going and what you are doing.
• Watch out for and report hazards that other people might miss.

Look ahead!

• Watch out for other people.
• Don’t change direction suddenly.
• Go at a safe speed.

Follow the rules!

• Whether you are working at heights or on the ground, make sure you use common sense and
• always follow the safety rules.
• Only use equipment that you have been trained to use and that you are authorised to use. If in doubt ASK!

Use safety equipment and wear the right clothes!

• Safety shoes, glasses, ear protection etc are for your safety. If you are issued with safety equipment you must use it. It won’t protect you if you don’t use it. Failure to use safety equipment and PPE will be subject to the company’s disciplinary procedures which could result in dismissal.
• Don’t wear clothes that could get caught in the moving parts of machinery. Wear your safety shoes at all times in production and warehousing areas.

Take care!

• Try to keep your balance.
• Use handrails on stairs and go carefully on ramps or uneven ground.

Don’t take chances!

• Avoid any tasks that are beyond your ability
• If you have any doubt about a task ask your supervisor

Don’t joke!

• Clowning about causes accidents. Anyone found clowning about will be subject to the company’s disciplinary procedures which could result in dismissal.

Don’t work in the dark!

• Use a torch or extension light in dark areas. If you need any lighting equipment see your supervisor, team leader or manager.

Empty waste bins regularly – don’t let rubbish build up.

Don’t store anything on the stairs. If you see anything left on the stairs remove it or tell your supervisor.

Don’t climb over things. If something is in your way, move it or walk around it.

Don’t let extension leads or cables trail across walkways. Make sure they are close to the wall where people cannot walk on or trip over them.

Store personal belongings in the correct place. Do not leave your things lying in the work area about where someone could trip over them.

In offices keep drawers closed when you are not using them.

Be careful on stairs. Don’t carry anything that blocks your view. Use the handrails

Always use a proper stepladder to reach high places. Never use makeshift ladders such as a stack of boxes or furniture to climb on. Only use a ladder if you have been shown how to do so safely. If you have any doubt ask your supervisor.

Use good manual handling techniques. Get help with heavy loads. Only carry what you can handle. Keep your balance. Walk carefully and look where you are going when carrying.

Don’t jump from raised areas. Use the steps or lower yourself slowly and carefully.

Make sure lighting is in good working order and gives everyone enough light to work in safety. It is important for stair lighting to be as bright as possible. If there is a problem with a light tell your supervisor, team leader or manager straight away so that they can get it repaired.

Only carry out tasks that you are trained and authorised to do. If in doubt ASK!

Plan your work before you begin. Take your time and follow proper procedures. If you have any doubts about the job you are doing ask your supervisor.

Tell your supervisor or manager about any possible hazards in your workplace.

Ask your supervisor, team leader or manager if you have any Health and Safety issues in the workplace.

Don’t repair anything yourself unless you are qualified and authorised to do so. Tell your supervisor, team leader or manager who will get in touch with the maintenance personnel.

Check if prescribed medicines will make you drowsy. If you are taking any medicine which may make you drowsy show it to your supervisor.
