Smyths Toys Warehouses – Safe Use of Knifes Policy

Introduction
The purpose of this policy is to give practical advice and reduce the risk of injury to anyone permitted and required to use a knife at work.
Policy
1. The manager will issue you with the correct knife for your task.
2. Only use a knife that is supplied by the company.
3. Check the condition of your knife and only use knives if there are no signs of damage. Should the knife have any damage you must not use it and request a replacement from your manager.
4. Ensure you are considering the working environment. The floor surface should be even and provide sufficient slip resistance. The cutting surface must be secure.
5. Always point away when using knives. You must not cut towards yourself or your fingers.
6. Do not attempt to catch a falling knife. Step back and let it fall.
7. Do not leave knives laying around. Once finished, you must return them to the designated area.
